So I used a poor choice of wording. I shouldn't "dread" telling people I'm going to seminary. But it is frustrating how awkward the conversation becomes once I do. Tomorrow (probably today by the time anyone reads this) I have an interview at Mars Hill. I have been freaking out about it for the past two weeks. If their interview questions are anything like their essay questions, I'm afraid I'm going to bomb it. It was hard enough to do the essays, but at least then I could sit and think about it. I'm not good at impromptu "describe yourself" conversations. In twenty-four hours, this whole application process will officially be over from my end of it. I cannot wait.

It's funny the different reactions you get from people when they find out you're going to seminary. Most people kind of utter, "oh," and suddenly become very awkward and uncomfortable. I've come to dread the question, "so, what are you going to school for?" But I've had some funny responses.

This one took place at work:
Them: "So, what are you going to school for?"
Me: "I'm going to seminary"
Them: "Oh! I have two aunts that are nuns!"

And this one at a BBQ last night:
Them: "So, what are you going to school for?"
Me: "I'm going to seminary"
Ned: "I'm going to film school"
Them: (to Ned) "So you can videotape her sermons- (to me) you can be televangelists!"
Me and Ned in unison: "NOOOOOO!!!"

frustration

UGH! So after completely stressing out about my application last weekend, and finally getting everything in, Mars Hill sends out an e-mail today saying, whoops- they misprinted the application deadline somewhere and so it has been extended to June 5. So all that stressing out was for nothing! And now I have to wait an extra month to find out whether or not I'm in! GRRRRRR. At least I've got it all done and don't have to worry about it anymore, but I sure could've used the extra time to make my essays a little better. :-P
